Ophthalmologists: I'm looking for info on your EMR systems, pro/con/etc. Let me know what you're using, have used, or plan to use. Thanks!

Answer

The current generation of EMR SYSTEMS is designed around the end result: billing. Thus, they force you to totally restructure your clinical processes (which you have invested years into designing for effeciency for the way YOU practice). Then, it is "customized " with static templates. Then add in at least 7 hidden costs such as: reduced producity, increased IT infrastructure, staff on-going training, etc.

Instead, I recommend the "next generation" EMR - a SaaS cloud-based service that uses next generation OCR to scan and POPULATE the EMR's database. Then, rather than restructure your practice and you having to be a data-entry scribe, you simply have your staff scan your forms instead of file them - EMR "Your Way".
